A multi-property program creates a useful test: can the guest recognize one strong experience across a portfolio without making every destination feel interchangeable? The Gravity Haus collaboration in 2024 placed a common two-hour astronomy format in four mountain communities.
The repeatable elements
Each program used professional astronomer guidance, large telescopes, constellation interpretation and an all-ages approach. Mobile equipment allowed the team to bring the experience to the guest rather than construct a permanent observatory at every property.
A shared format made training, packing, setup and guest communication more consistent. It also gave the hospitality partner a clear product that could be explained across multiple locations.
The local elements
The four destinations differ in horizons, nearby light, guest flow, ground surfaces, weather patterns and the character visitors expect. The program therefore needed a site-specific plan for setup, arrival and target selection at each property.
Localization was not about rewriting the entire show. It meant connecting the sky to the surrounding mountain setting, using the best visible objects and adjusting the practical delivery to the site.
Why mobile pilots are useful
A mobile program lets a hospitality group learn before committing to permanent infrastructure. It can test demand, capacity, timing, guest questions and weather impacts in several markets. The resulting evidence is far more useful than choosing equipment from a catalogue before the operational problem is understood.
The same approach can support a phased rollout. A destination can begin with a limited series, identify the strongest property or season, then decide whether staff training, dedicated storage or permanent viewing improvements are justified.
The destination lesson
For a portfolio, consistency should live in the service standard and operating system. Place should remain visible in the story. Guests should feel that they experienced the night sky of Vail or Steamboat, not a generic show that happened to be delivered there.
What another destination can use
Four transferable lessons
- 01Use a mobile pilot to compare demand across properties.
- 02Standardize equipment, safety and guest-service expectations.
- 03Create a separate site plan for every location.
- 04Let the destination remain part of the story.
Evidence and public record

The partnership, destinations and public two-hour format are recorded in AstroTours' April 2024 announcement. This article focuses on the operational lessons from that rollout and does not imply a current program at every property.
